Analytics & Widget Tracking
ResDiary has been providing the functionality to track bookings since 2013.
ResDiary provides a fully integrated solution for Google Tag Manager; Google Analytics; Google Ads & Meta Pixel.
We can only offer a guide to you on how to track your bookings from your Google Analytics & Google Tag Manager.
Considerations:
1. How has the widget been embedded on your website: Javascript; iFrame; Direct link?
2. Is your website build with a CMS or a self-contained platform?
3. Both Google Analytics & GTM have issues tracking interactions within iFrames. Whilst there are possible solutions like adding GTM within the iframe and cross domain tracking, only very competent marketeers will be well versed on their implementation.
We asked one of ResDiary's senior developers the following question:
If the widget is embedded using the iframe, is there any way we could still use tracking?
The short answer is: no, not any meaningful stats.
The longer answer is that you still get pageviews and part of the session from the iframe and you could try to set up cross-domain or use JS to inject GA session cookie into the iframe for getting the correct sources for your full session. However, the results are not reliable as Safari completely blocks most of these hacks. We spent weeks trying different methods, it didn’t work.
